Still in the old paint.

As I understand, they've started the cosmetic restoration of this airplane. When the museum reopens in April, I'll take new pictures.
 

This picture is more recent (April 2006). The old paint has been etched off, and some of the museum's crew are reinstalling the horizontal stabiliser.
 

A heartpounding memory: in my childhood I saw these planes flying often in a "silver" colour such as this. I'm reminded of the steep diving attacks on the Szanda meadow from several hundred metres up. I used to watch from the opposite side of the Tisza river, and when they disappeared behind the trees, I was sure they'd drill into the ground. But they always reappeared above the trees...
 

The horizontal stabiliser is back in place, though without the fairing yet. (They've since reattached that, too.)

Two weeks later, the fairing was in place again.
 

I really like the sight of aircraft from straight on, and you'll find plenty of such photos on this website.

The Delfin is almost finished, just a few finishing touches left. Marvel at her too, if you feel like it!

Nose number, nosecone, step-ups, everything's nicely restored.

The two plexi sections in the canopy are practically new, and there's hope that the frontmost section will be swapped out, too.

The nosegear sparkles.
 

The "people's democratic" insignia on the tail.

The mechanical status indicator of the nosegear shows that the gear is in extended position. The main gears have such an indicator, too, but of course there are also lights indicating the status of the landing gear.

 

The drop tank has antiglare paint and the "mandatory" dents.

 

The "step here" area is nicely defined.

The different shape of the two air inlets is interesting.

Kék: oxigén.

Fekete: sűrített levegő.

The ground connections taken in order.

Blue: Oxygen.

Black: Compressed air.

Yellow: fuel.

Another one for compressed air? Yes, the canopy section over the instructor's seat
operates on its own air system, and its supply point is visible here.

 

Itt egy kicsit csaltam, a gépen ez most piros, de hamarosan kijavítják barnára, amit én itt megelőlegeztem.

Brown: electric connection.

I cheated a little here: it's red on the airplane now, but it'll soon be corrected
to brown, so I gave them an advance on it.

Silver: hydraulics.

A leftover from the world war: the dispenser for coloured flares.

Actually, here I'm just bragging with my new camera. This is what the 420 tele can do, plus you can still magnify from the 8 megapixels.

 

This is the starboard air intake. We can now be sure that there's a powerplant
in our machine!
